Story: |
Norm’s involvement with
Fiats dates back to his childhood when his father Reg had a variety of Fiats
and was the first president of the Fiat Car Club of Queensland.

Norm’s first car was a
Fiat 600, followed by a Fiat 1100 and 1500, his first foray into motorsport
was hillclimbing in the 1500 at Echo Valley Toowoomba and Mt Cotton in
Brisbane.
He then turned to dirt rallying which he started in a Renault and
then built a 124 Fiat. He rallied the Fiat successfully for several years
before returning to hillclimbing in an Alfasud which proved to be a very
good hillclimb car. |

In the nineties Norm
decided to enter Targa Tasmania and he and his son built a Fiat X19 Abarth
Prototipo replica.
The car competed twice in this event, and since then
Norm has competed locally in the car, ranging from street events to circuit
racing. The Prototipo ran at the Fiat al Monte at Bathurst in 2005 and was
the fastest Fiat on the Hill.
The car is constantly undergoing mechanical
and handling upgrades, and has proved to have a mind of its own.A Fiat 131 2 Door was the next project and Norm and
Kath competed successfully in Targa Tasmania in this car. This car has
since been sold. |

A Fiat 124 Spider was acquired and Norm competed in
local events such as Leyburn Sprints and Noosa Hillclimb before the Spider
was also sold. This little car was ideal for this type of event.

The latest project is the restoration of a Fiat 124
CSA Abarth Spider. Upon its completion the plan is for the Abarth to
compete in historic events both locally and interstate. Due to a very heavy
workload in the workshop a finish date is uncertain, and as with all
restoration jobs they always take longer than anticipated. More details of
restoration on our restoration page.
